Read It Aloud — how every lesson works

Every shelf configuration maps argument by argument to plain language. Say it out loud — in any language — if you can explain it, you own it.

Columns: MONTH(Order Date) Rows: SUM(Revenue) Color: Category
MONTH(Order Date)truncate each date to its month — one tick per month on the x-axis
SUM(Revenue)aggregate all revenue within each month — sets the bar/line height
Color: Categorysplit into separate series — one color per unique category value

Lessons

12 lessons across three units. Each ends with a quiz, then drills.

Practice Drills

Five drill types. Mix them up or focus on a weak spot.

Viz Builder

Drag fields onto the shelves. Pick a mark type. The chart updates live — same mental model as Tableau's actual interface.

Mark type:

Columns

Rows

Color

Filters

📊
Drop a dimension on Columns and a measure on Rows to build your chart.

Calculated Field

Common Tableau formulas: SUM([Revenue]) AVG([Units]) IF [Region] = "West" THEN "West" ELSE "Other" END [Revenue] / [Units] DATEDIFF('month', [Hire Date], TODAY())
